planting potatoes

Potatoe farming has previously not been very successful in Fiji .

Mainly because the seeds have been imported from a temperate climate (New Zealand) and ours is a tropical climate.

The government of Fiji has now re-introduced a planting

                        programme (read about it)

and we were lucky to get a bag and half of the seeds.

So, Claude pegged out an area,  jumped on the tractor

oops, wrong pic !!  ;)

ploughed the area.... and then Sai got stuck into it....

and due to  lack of rain on our dry side of the island......
 plenty plenty of irrigation......

and hopefully soon......

a healthy plant.....

and a good harvest!

                                                             will keep you updated....

UPDATE :

October - we had a very successful harvest.  Our potatoes were insect free and we used NO CHEMICALS!!!!
(maybe we were very lucky!)  Must say, we have plenty Neem trees around the field....

We sold our potatoes at Vuda Growers and Makers Market....they sold out in minutes!
